Kanyemba & Late KK11 Captain Melu Honoured by President Hichilema
Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) president Keith Mweemba has congratulated Copper Princesses coach Carol Kanyemba and late former KK11 captain Ashious Jordan Melu after they were honoured by President Hakainde Hichilema during Zambia’s 62nd Independence Anniversary celebrations.
Mweemba commended both recipients for their contributions to the development of sport and their service to the nation, noting that the recognition highlights the value of dedication and commitment in advancing football in Zambia.
Kanyemba’s honour was received on her behalf by her husband, as the Copper Princesses coach was away on national assignment in Morocco. Her recognition comes in acknowledgement of her contribution to football and her work with the national women’s Under-17 team.
Meanwhile, Melu, who was honoured posthumously, was represented by a family member at the investiture ceremony held at State House on October 24, 2026.
The former KK11 captain remains associated with Zambia’s football history, and the posthumous honour recognises his contribution and service to the country.
The recognition of Kanyemba and Melu formed part of the Independence Anniversary celebrations, which provided an opportunity to acknowledge individuals who have made notable contributions to national development in different fields.
Mweemba’s message highlights the importance of recognising those whose commitment and service continue to contribute to the growth of Zambian football.
