Power Dynamos and Nkana Disciplined Over Political Sloganeering

The Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) Discplinary Committee has separately sanctioned Power Dynamos Football Club and Nkana Football Club for being in breach of Article 3 of the constitution which prohibits political slogans at match venues.

According to rulings released by the FAZ Disciplinary Committee Power Dynamos and Nkana have been fined K100, 000 each after being found guilty of the offence.

In the case of Power Dynamos, the complaint was to the effect that, during the MTN Super League Week 2 game between the Respondent and Nchanga Rangers FC, played at Arthur Davies Stadium, in Kitwe on Sunday 11th October 2026, a considerable section of The Respondent’s Supporters repeatedly chanted political slogans in the stands.

According to the complaint, the incident happened one day after similar chants at Nkana Stadium.

In a letter dated 12th October 2026 the Premier League asked the Respondent herein to Show Cause why it could not be charged for misconduct.

In its response, the Respondent condemned political chants and acts of indiscipline, acknowledged its responsibility to promote and manage appropriate supporter behaviour and expressed regret for what the respondent described as an isolated incident of alleged political chants.

A unanimous decision by the Disciplinary Committee was arrived at with a fine of K100, 000 slapped on Power Dynamos and a Three-Match ban from playing at Arthur Davies Stadium suspended.

In the case of Nkana Football Club, a complaint was raised against the Respondent following an incident that occurred during the MTN Super League Week 2 fixture between the Respondent and Makeni All Stars FC, played at Nkana Stadium on Saturday, 10th October 2026.

During the match, a considerable section of the Respondents supporters was observed chanting political slogans from the stands. The incident attracted public condemnation and raised concerns about the use of a football event organised under the auspices of FAZ to advance political interests.

The conduct in question was considered inconsistent with the principles of sportsmanship, neutrality and fair conduct expected at football matches. It also raised concerns about the potential for football venues to become centres of political confrontation, thereby undermining the peaceful enjoyment of the game by players, officials, supporters and other stakeholders.

By correspondence dated 11th October 2026, the Respondent was asked to show cause why disciplinary action could not be taken in respect of the conduct of its

“The Committee has carefully considered the complaint, the supporting evidence on record and the Respondent’s written response. In evaluating the evidence, the Committee has had regard to Article 95(2), Article 99(1) and Article 100 of the FAZ Disciplinary Code, 2021 Edition,” reads part of verdict.

“Pursuant to Articles 25 and 26 of the FAZ Disciplinary Code, 2021 Edition, the Respondent is hereby ordered to play its next five (5) home matches at a neutral venue situated at least 300 kilometres from Nkana Stadium. The said matches shall be played without spectators, and the restriction shall apply to all fixtures designated as the Respondent’s home matches, notwithstanding that, such matches would ordinarily have been played at Nkana Stadium,” reads part of the verdict.

The ban is partially suspended and can only take effect if Nkana is guilty of the same offence in subsequent matches.

FAZ General Secretary Charles Chakatazya has thanked the Disciplinary Committee for acting swiftly and calling the football family to order.

“I would like to thank the Discplinary Committee for the clarity offered on the matter and hope that our members have picked up lessons from this episode,” says Chakatazya.

“Football is a huge source of joy for the majority of our people and cannot be turned into a political battleground. It is our prayer that stadia will continue to be a safe haven for our people.”
