Kangwa Nets Stunning Free-Kick in Panathinaikos’ 5-1 Rout of Kairat
Zambia midfielder Kings Kangwa made an immediate impact off the bench, scoring a stunning free-kick just one minute after entering the match as Panathinaikos cruised to a convincing 5-1 victory over Kairat Almaty in the UEFA Conference League.
Kangwa replaced Etienne Camara in the 56th minute and announced his arrival in spectacular fashion, curling a superb free-kick into the net in the 57th minute to put Panathinaikos 4-0 ahead. The goal took the Zambian international’s tally to two in two UEFA Conference League appearances.
Panathinaikos took control early in their first European visit to Kazakhstan, with Tamborda opening the scoring in the sixth minute after connecting with Kyriakopoulos’ cross. Deschers doubled the lead from the penalty spot in the 24th minute after being brought down inside the area.
The visitors continued their dominance after the break, as Tettei set up Deschers for his second goal of the night in the 47th minute. Kangwa’s free-kick followed shortly afterwards, further strengthening the Greek side’s commanding position.
Rastodor added a fifth in the 75th minute following another assist from Tettei, while Bekbolat scored a consolation for Kairat four minutes later. Panathinaikos also came close to adding another, with Pelistri hitting the post late in the match.
The victory marked Panathinaikos’ second win in the Conference League league phase, following another five-goal performance against Asteras.
For Kangwa, scoring within a minute of coming on further underlined his growing influence in the European campaign.
