Uganda Cubs to Hold Training Sessions at National Heroes Stadium
The Uganda U17 Women’s National Team is set to train at Lusaka’s National Heroes Stadium on Saturday afternoon. The team arrived safely at Lusaka’s Kenneth Kaunda International Airport on Friday.
In the first leg of the 3rd round FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup Qualifier against Zambia on Sunday, the Cubs will face the highly rated Copper Princesses at the National Heroes Stadium. This match marks the first time a junior women’s international match will be played at the magnificent 60,000-capacity venue.
Head coach Sheryl Botes expressed confidence in her team’s ability to deliver on Sunday, with kickoff set for 12:30. She praised the players’ commitment and progress in preparation, noting that friendly matches had been beneficial in evaluating their strengths and areas for improvement.
Following Sunday’s match, the team will host Zambia five days later at Kitende’s St Mary’s Stadium. The winner between Morocco and Algeria will face either Zambia or Uganda. Zambia had eliminated Tanzania in the previous round.
