Patson Daka Contemplates Cameroon Encounter
Zambia’s striker, Patson Daka, characterized the 1-1 draw with Cameroon as an intense and competitive match. The Leicester City forward emphasized that the game didn’t resemble a mere practice session.
According to Daka, the match was crucial for the Copper Bullets to assess their preparedness for the upcoming tournament and identify areas for improvement.
Describing the game, Daka stated, “Well, it was a very competitive game and did not look like a training match. It was important for us as a team to see the level we are at and how ready we are going forward. It has given us direction on areas we need to work on and what we need to improve, and also it was a good result.”
Daka stressed the significance of the match not only for himself but for the entire team. He highlighted the team’s unity and the collective effort required to score and win games. Reflecting on their time in Saudi Arabia, where the team has been in camp, Daka emphasized the importance of focusing on the game and avoiding distractions.
“I think it has been a great camp here, the weather has been good, the food and the people have all been good. I think it was good for us to have a getaway and be in a place where we just focus on football. It helps with team bonding,” he remarked.
Looking ahead to the upcoming tournament, Daka acknowledged the challenges but expressed confidence in the team’s determination. “We don’t expect it to be easy, but one thing I can say is that we will do our very best and make sure we achieve our target. We are going there not to be participants but to compete,” he added.
Daka, anticipating his first senior AFCON, described it as a dream come true. He expressed gratitude for the fans’ support and assured them that the team would give their best to make them proud.
As the team prepares to depart for San Pedro, where they will be based for Group F assignments, Daka shared his excitement for the upcoming matches, with the first one against DR Congo on January 17, followed by encounters with the Taifa Stars and Morocco.
