National Heroes Stadium Battles Armyworm Outbreak on Field

The playing surface at Lusaka’s National Heroes Stadium is currently facing an army worm infestation. Minister of Sports, Elvis Nkandu, has confirmed the situation, noting that urgent measures are being taken, including the involvement of specialized experts.

According to Nkandu, specialists from South Africa have been brought in to evaluate the extent of the damage and recommend effective solutions.

He further indicated that the infestation has caused delays in the ongoing rehabilitation efforts at the stadium. However, once the turf is fully restored, work on other planned upgrades will resume.

In a related update, Maurice Van Nierneck, Project Manager for Sporturf, reported that the turf has already been fumigated.

He expressed optimism that the grass will recover and resume normal growth in due course.
