Francisco Mwepu Starts for Sanluqueño but Held Goalless in Draw
Zambian striker Francisco Mwepu earned his first start of 2024 for Atlético Sanluqueño in their match against UD Ibiza on Sunday. However, despite his inclusion in the starting lineup, Mwepu and his team were unable to secure a victory, as the match ended in a goalless draw.
Coach Abel Segovia opted to give Mwepu the starting position, a departure from his usual role as a substitute in previous matches of the year. This marked a significant opportunity for the Chipolopolo Boys striker to make an impact from the beginning of the game.
Unfortunately, it was not a memorable outing for Mwepu or Sanluqueño, as they struggled to break down the strong defense of UD Ibiza, who currently hold a high position in the league table. Despite his efforts, Mwepu was unable to add to his goal tally on the day.
Nevertheless, Mwepu maintains his status as the team’s top scorer with seven goals, despite the goalless draw. The single point earned from the match leaves Sanluqueño in 15th place with 26 points, still in a relatively safe position in the league standings.
While the result may be disappointing, securing a point against a formidable opponent like UD Ibiza is a commendable achievement. Sanluqueño will now look to capitalize on this performance and strive for better results in their upcoming fixtures as they aim to avoid relegation.
