Zambian Official Chikotesha Achieves Historic Milestone
Diana Chikotesha, an assistant referee from Zambia, made history by becoming the first female match official to participate in a men’s Africa Cup of Nations final this past weekend.
Having honed her skills at numerous COSAFA tournaments, Chikotesha delivered an impeccable performance as an assistant referee during Sunday’s final in Abidjan, where Ivory Coast secured a 2-1 victory over Nigeria.
This milestone is likely just the beginning for the 35-year-old, who has previously officiated at the African Nations Championship finals and the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations.
Joining Chikotesha in the final was Jerson dos Santos from Angola, forming a COSAFA duo and showcasing the high caliber of match officials developed in the region.
Dahane Beida from Mauritania served as the referee, while Bouchra Karboubi from Morocco contributed as the fourth official, highlighting the diverse and inclusive nature of the officiating team.
