Lungu Named as Replacement for Injured Hazel Nali in Zambia's FIFA Women's World Cup Squad
ZESCO Ndola Girls goalkeeper, Leticia Lungu, has received a call-up to the Zambia national team as a replacement for the injured goalkeeper Hazel Nali ahead of the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup. Nali has been forced to withdraw from the squad due to an injury.
Lungu was initially part of the 35-member provisional team that traveled to Germany for an international training camp. However, she did not make the final cut for the tournament, with Nali, Catherine Musonda, based in Kazakhstan, and Eunice Sakala from Nkwazi Queens securing their places.
Nali’s World Cup journey was abruptly halted after suffering a laxity in the Medial Collateral Ligament and a complete tear of the Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) during training in Germany. Her recovery is expected to take a minimum of six weeks, ruling her out of action for the upcoming tournament.
The inclusion of Leticia Lungu in the squad presents an opportunity for her to contribute to Zambia’s World Cup campaign as a talented goalkeeper. She will join the team as they prepare to compete against the world’s best on the global stage.
Zambia’s national women’s team will now rely on Lungu’s skills and determination between the posts as they aim to make a mark in the prestigious FIFA Women’s World Cup, showcasing their talent and representing their country with pride.
