Sports Minister Advises Fans to Manage Expectations as Chipolopolo Embark on AFCON Journey
With the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) just a day away, the Ministry of Youth, Sports, and Arts has issued advice to football fans, urging them to manage their expectations as the Chipolopolo embark on their AFCON journey after a prolonged absence.
Hon. Elvis Nkandu, speaking on Diamond TV, emphasized the importance of not burdening the Copper Bullets with excessive pressure, especially considering that this is their first AFCON qualification since 2015. He acknowledged the potential of the team to win AFCON but also highlighted the competitive nature of the tournament, citing recent friendly matches like Nigeria’s loss to Guinea Bissau as examples of the unpredictable outcomes.
“We have the potential to win AFCON, but it’s crucial to recognize that there are no small teams in this tournament,” Hon. Nkandu remarked. He underlined the need for fans to understand that any team in the tournament could emerge victorious, encouraging belief in the Chipolopolo’s determination to give their best effort, irrespective of the ultimate results.
The Sports Minister assured fans that the government and the Ministry have spared no effort in motivating players, allocating ample resources to ensure a stellar performance on the field. As the nation eagerly anticipates the AFCON campaign, the message is one of support, optimism, and an understanding of the challenges and unpredictability inherent in high-stakes tournaments. The call to manage expectations is aimed at fostering a positive and encouraging environment for the team as they represent the nation on the continental stage.
