Zambian U-20 Striker Mary Mbewe Joins Yanga Princesses on Loan

Zambian U-20 striker Mary Mbewe has embarked on a new football journey by joining Tanzanian giants Yanga Princesses on a six-month loan deal from ZESCO Ndola Girls. The move, revealed by ZESCO Ndola Girls on social media, underscores Mbewe’s potential and provides her with an opportunity to gain experience in the competitive Tanzanian Women’s Premier League.

This strategic transfer, brokered as a six-month loan, is significant not only for Mbewe‘s career but also for the broader collaboration between Zambian and Tanzanian women’s football. Mbewe becomes the third Zambian woman to play in Tanzania, following Dorothy Mukatasha (Simba Queens) and Natasha Witika (Tiger Queens), both of whom also made the move from ZESCO Ndola Girls.

The announcement highlighted that Mbewe‘s new coach at Yanga Princesses is Charles Halubono, the coach of Zambia’s U-20 women’s national team. Halubono, having observed Mbewe’s potential during the recent U-20 World Cup qualifiers against the Democratic Republic of Congo, played a pivotal role in securing her loan move to Yanga Princesses.

Mary Mbewe, a 20-year-old versatile attacker, joined ZESCO Ndola Girls at the beginning of the current FAZ/ZPL season. Her loan spell at Queens Sports Academy preceded her time with ZESCO Ndola Girls, showcasing her dedication to football development.

Known for her pace, dribbling skills, and goal-scoring ability, Mbewe’s move to Yanga Princesses provides her with a platform to showcase her talent on an international stage. This experience is not only valuable for her individual growth but also contributes to the broader exchange of talent and expertise between footballing communities in Zambia and Tanzania.

The loan move offers Mbewe a chance to make a mark in the Tanzanian league, and her performance during this period could potentially lead to a permanent move or open doors for future opportunities in her football career.
