Nkandu calls for report on FIFA funding ban

Sports Minister Elvis Nkandu has directed the Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) to provide a comprehensive report on the reasons behind FIFA’s decision to restrict funds earmarked for football development in Zambia.

Nkandu emphasized that the sanctions, which involve withholding over one million dollars allocated for football development, will significantly impact the sport in the country.

He urged FAZ to promptly address the outstanding payments owed to former Chipolopolo Coach Aljosa Asanovic to avoid jeopardizing future football development funding from FIFA.

Despite not yet receiving official communication from FAZ on the matter, Nkandu stated that the Ministry is closely monitoring developments within FAZ.

Nkandu made these remarks in an interview with ZNBC News in Lusaka.

In a letter to FAZ, FIFA imposed restrictions on funds designated for football development in Zambia due to FAZ’s breach of contract. FIFA warned of more severe restrictions if FAZ fails to demonstrate proof of payment to Asanovic by the next distribution of football development funds.

FAZ General Secretary Reuben Kamanga indicated that a statement regarding the issue will be released at an appropriate time when contacted for comment.
