Zambian midfielder Natasha Witika has officially joined Delta Queens, the defending champions of the Nigerian Women’s Football League (NWFL), following the expiration of her contract with Bayelsa Queens, another Nigerian club.
Witika, who recently made the move to Asaba, Delta Region, expressed her enthusiasm about joining Delta Queens in an exclusive interview with ZamFoot Community Reporter Moses Pedro Mwanza.
She sees the Nigerian league as highly competitive and is eager to take on the new challenge.
In her words, “I am excited to join Delta Queens; it is not easy, but God has always been on my side, and I look forward to taking on my new challenge.
The Nigerian league is competitive; every team is capable of winning the league. It is all about power play here, requiring one to be physically strong and a quick thinker both on and off the ball to excel.”
Witika, the first Zambian female footballer to play in Nigeria, initially joined Bayelsa Queens in 2022 and played a pivotal role in helping them secure the Nigerian Women’s League title. She made her debut on May 17, 2022, in a Super 6 match against Naija Ratels.
Having featured prominently for Bayelsa Queens, Witika is now set to contribute to Delta Queens’ title defense. Before her Nigerian stint, Witika had also played in Tanzania, where she earned the nickname “Rasta Girl” due to her dreadlocks.
She featured for Tiger Queens in Arusha, helping them earn promotion from the Tanzanian Women’s First Division League (WFDL) to the Serengeti Lite Premier League in 2021.
Witika, a product of Chiparamba Breakthrough under the guidance of Coach Edson Siaulutaba and Saidi Leviticus, previously played for ZESCO Ndola Girls in Zambia’s Copperbelt Province before making the move to Tanzania in 2020.
Her impressive performances and versatility in the midfield have marked her as a standout player with a diverse and enriching football journey.
