Evarine Susan Katongo Becomes a Member of Green Buffaloes
Evarine Susan Katongo, the midfielder for the Copper Queens of Zambia, has officially joined the Green Buffaloes Women’s Football Club, the reigning champions of the FAZ Women’s Super Division. The confirmation of this union was made by both the club and the player on social media just before their Week 17 encounter against ZISD.
Having concluded her contract with ZISD earlier this month, Katongo seamlessly transitioned to the Green Buffaloes, a team sponsored by the Zambian army. In her debut match on Sunday, she played the full 90 minutes in Buffaloes’ 3-1 victory over ZISD and played a significant role in the build-up to the third goal, scored by Vanessa Chikupira.
Katongo, a pivotal member of the Copper Queens, is anticipated to enhance the already formidable Green Buffaloes side with her skills and experience. The 21-year-old showcased her talent on the international stage during the 2022 WAFCON, contributing to Zambia’s victory over Nigeria in the third and fourth play-off with a remarkable long-range strike, securing the bronze.
A graduate of the Zambia U-20 women’s national team, Katongo boasts an impressive record, having clinched the COSAFA Women’s Championship in 2022 and securing a silver medal in the previous year. Her notable performances have earned her two Player of the Match awards, further underscoring her impact on the field.
