Muzala Samukonga: Ready for Competitive Comeback in Athletics
Athletics National team coach Douglas Kalembo has provided assurance that sprinter Muzala Samukonga is fully fit and prepared for a return to competitive events. Despite previous setbacks due to injury, the 2022 Commonwealth gold medalist is eager to make a mark on the international stage.
Observing Samukonga’s energetic training sessions alongside teammates at the National Heroes Stadium, Kalembo stressed the importance of a cautious approach to off-training activities for Samukonga’s complete recovery.
Looking ahead to the 2024 calendar, which includes major events such as the All African Games, Under 20 Region Five Youth Games, and the African Championships, Kalembo plans to assemble a squad of over 21 athletes for comprehensive training. The goal is to secure successful qualifications for prestigious global competitions, including the Olympics.
In a separate statement, Patrick Nyambe, a talent in the 400 meters category, expressed confidence in not only qualifying for but also clinching a medal at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games. The optimism within the athletics team signals a positive trajectory for Zambian athletes on the international stage.
