”Local Players Should Challenge Patson Daka, Enock Mwepu, Fashion Sakala” – Wedson Nyirenda

Former Zambian Coach WEDSON NYIRENDA says there is need to groom players that will challenge the foreign based players for slots in the starting lineup for the national team.

NYIRENDA says lack of competition at the senior men’s national football team will have a negative impact on the current crop of foreign based players.

He says currently the country doesn’t have players that would challenge strikers PATSON DAKA, FASHION SAKALA and Midfielder ENOCK MWEPU for places in the starting eleven provided they are available.

NYIRENDA says the narrative is bad for developing a strong national team as most foreign based players will be comfortable and not strive to work harder as they will not have players to compete with in their various positions.

He has however called on Zambia’s to exercise patience with the National team as it is undergoing the rebuilding phase.

Speaking to Sports News in an interview NYIRENDA is however elated that most of the players from the 2017 Under-20 AFCON winning squad are having game time and scoring for their various teams.
