Lameck Banda and Chepeshi Positioned for Starting Roles as Grants Considers Adjustments
The Chipolopolo Boys are set to make their return to the pitch on Sunday night as they face Tanzania in their second Group F match at the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations.
In their opening game against DR Congo, Zambia secured a 1-1 draw, with Yoane Wissa equalizing after Klings Kangwa’s initial goal, resulting in both teams earning a point.
On the flip side, the Taifa Stars suffered a hefty 3-0 defeat against Morocco, Africa’s top-ranked team.
Leading up to this match, Tanzania had to make adjustments to their technical staff, with head coach Adel Amrouche receiving an eight-game ban from CAF for his comments on Morocco. Hemed Suleiman Morocco has stepped in on an interim basis and will be in charge against the Chipolopolo Boys.
Looking at the Zambian side, Avram Grant is anticipated to make changes to his starting lineup. Lameck ‘The Beast’ Banda from Serie A is likely to start on the wings as Grant aims for an aggressive approach in the quest for Zambia’s first AFCON victory in over a decade. Banda, who started on the bench in the previous match, drew some dissatisfaction from certain fan sections.
Benedict Chepeshi of Red Arrows might be introduced in place of Tandi Mwape to bolster the attacking strength from the right back position. Additionally, there’s a chance that captain Lubambo Musonda could move to the right back, a position he is familiar with from his regular role at Silkeborg IF.
Grant may also consider bringing in Clatous Chota Chama or Rally Bwalya in the midfield, potentially replacing either Emmanuel Banda or Klings Kangwa.
The showdown between the Chipolopolo Boys and the Taifa Stars is scheduled for this evening at the Laurent Pokou Stadium, with kickoff set for 19:00 hours (CAT).
Probable Zambia XI: Lawrence Mulenga – Benedict Chepeshi, Frankie Musonda, Stopilla Sunzu, Rodrick Kabwe – Kelvin Kapumbu, Emmanuel Banda, Kings Kangwa – Lameck Banda, Patson Daka, Fashion Sakala.
