Angola Triumphs in Spectacular Fashion: Victory Sealed Over Mauritania

Angola positioned themselves favorably for qualification to the knockout stages of the TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations Cote d’Ivoire 2023 with a hard-fought 3-2 triumph over Mauritania on Saturday at the Stade de la Paix in Bouaké.

Right from the start, the Palancas Negras displayed great initiative in their determined quest for the opening goal. Gelson Dala secured the lead for Angola at the half-hour mark, but the advantage was short-lived as Sidi Bouna Amar equalized for Mauritania in the 43rd minute before halftime.

Angola resumed their assertive performance in the second half, with Dala completing a brace in the 50th minute and Gilberto extending the lead further in the 53rd minute, placing Angola in control. Nevertheless, a resilient Mauritania continued their offensive efforts and were rewarded in the 58th minute when Aboubakary Koita scored a well-struck goal, setting the stage for a photo-finish to the clash that concluded with a 3-2 victory for Angola.

Following this win, Angola shares the top spot in group D with Burkina Faso, both accumulating 4 points. The final group match between the two teams will determine the group winner. Mauritania, with 0 points, remains at the bottom and is set to face Algeria in their last group match
