Fridah Kabwe Receives Her First Invitation to Join the Copper Queens

ZESCO Ndola Girls’ striker, Fridah Kabwe, has received her inaugural call-up to the Senior Women’s National Team in preparation for the 2023 COSAFA Women’s Championship, scheduled to take place in Johannesburg, South Africa, from October 4th to 15th, 2023.

Fridah’s selection is a result of her outstanding performance in the ongoing 2023/24 FAZ Women’s Super Division Season. She has already netted three goals, including a remarkable hat-trick in the opening match against Kamfinsa Police Blue Eagles, followed by another strong showing against Green Eagles last weekend.

Kabwe’s football journey commenced with Park Stars FC in 2012, where she stayed until 2015 before joining Makululu Stars for a two-year stint in Central Province.

In April 2017, Kabwe joined Kitwe Girls Academy, competing in the Copperbelt Provincial Women’s League, where she spent two years under the guidance of Coach Stephen Kabamba.

After an impressive season with Kitwe Girls, Kabwe joined ZESCO Ndola Girls on August 9, 2019. Since then, her career has been on an upward trajectory, culminating in her being one of the top goal scorers for Zegalicious last season, with a total of seven goals in the FAZ Women’s Super Division.

Kabwe’s exceptional dribbling skills and speed on the flanks make her a player to watch this season. Her call-up to the national team will undoubtedly provide her with valuable experience, particularly in international competitions.

Zambia will kick off their COSAFA title defense with a match against Mozambique on October 5th at Lucas Moripe Stadium, followed by a clash with Angola three days later at Dobsonville Stadium.

Their final group stage match will see Zambia face off against Comoros on October 10th at UJ Stadium.

This year’s competition features three groups of four teams each, with the top teams and the second-best-placed side advancing to the semi-finals. The winners of these ties will secure a spot in the championship final.
