FAZ President Calls on Clubs to Give Players Time to Vote in tis Years 2026 General Elections
Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) President Keith Mweemba has urged football clubs to make room for their players, coaches and officials to take part in Thursday’s general elections.
Mweemba stressed that preparations for the upcoming football season and the transitional league should not come at the expense of members’ civic responsibilities.
He said everyone within the football fraternity should be given sufficient time to exercise their constitutional right to vote, regardless of their club or role in the game.
According to Mweemba, football activities can be organised around the election timetable to ensure that players, technical staff and other officials are able to participate in the democratic process without unnecessary disruption.
He further called on clubs to recognise voting as an important civic duty and to provide their members with the flexibility needed to fulfil that responsibility.
““Football is important, but our players and officials are citizens first. Their football responsibilities should not become an obstacle to their civic responsibilities as they have a constitutional fundamental right and duty to participate in the country’s democratic process,” Mweemba said.
The FAZ chief urged clubs to plan their training sessions and other football related activities around the election day.
“Football can resume immediately after the ballot, but every citizen must have the opportunity to participate in the democratic process,” Mr Mweemba emphasised.
Mweemba has also called on the football family to participate in the elections in a peaceful, respectful and democratic manner and then return to football and football related activities later.”
