FAZ Hands James Chamanga Zambia U-20 Ambassador Role
The Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) has appointed 2012 Africa Cup of Nations winner James Chamanga as the Team Ambassador for the Zambia Under-20 Men’s National Team as part of a newly constituted technical setup ahead of upcoming continental assignments.
Chamanga’s appointment comes alongside the unveiling of Perry Mutapa as the new Under-20 head coach, with FAZ aiming to revive the junior national team and prepare it for next month’s U-20 Africa Cup of Nations zonal qualifiers in Mauritius.
As Team Ambassador, Chamanga will use his wealth of experience to mentor and inspire the young players as they embark on their journey toward qualifying for the U-20 Africa Cup of Nations and ultimately the FIFA U-20 World Cup. The former Chipolopolo striker remains one of Zambia’s most respected football figures after playing a key role in the country’s historic 2012 AFCON triumph.
FAZ General Secretary Charles Chakatazya said the association deliberately included several former Chipolopolo stars in the new setup to help guide the next generation of players and restore the success the Under-20 team enjoyed in 2017, when Zambia won the U-20 AFCON and reached the quarter-finals of the FIFA U-20 World Cup.
Chamanga joins a technical bench led by Perry Mutapa and supported by Sipho Mumbi, Lameck Banda and Masautso Tembo, while former Chipolopolo defender Emmanuel Mbola has been appointed as the team’s equipment manager.
