FAZ General Secretary Seeks Immediate World Cup Preparation Plan For Copper Princesses

FAZ General Secretary Charles Chakatazya has urged the Copper Princesses technical bench to urgently submit a detailed preparation plan ahead of the 2026 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup, stressing the need for immediate and structured readiness.

Speaking upon the team’s return from Ethiopia early this morning, Chakatazya congratulated the players and technical staff for successfully securing Zambia’s qualification to a third consecutive World Cup appearance.

While praising the achievement, he emphasized that time is limited before the global tournament kicks off and called for swift planning to ensure the team is fully prepared for the challenge ahead. He noted that proper preparation will be key to ensuring competitiveness at the highest level of youth international football.

The Copper Princesses earned their place at the World Cup after a 3-2 aggregate victory over Ethiopia, continuing their impressive run on the continental stage.

“We congratulate the team and the technical bench for this outstanding achievement. Qualifying for three successive FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cups is no small feat. We now need to shift our focus to preparing adequately for the tournament, and I urge the technical bench to quickly submit their plan of action,” said Chakatazya.

The Carol Kanyemba – coached side booked their place at the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup in Morocco after drawing 1-1 with Ethiopia in Addis Ababa on Saturday. Zambia advanced 3-2 on aggregate, having defeated Ethiopia 2-1 in the first leg played in Ndola two weeks ago.

The Copper Princesses enjoyed an impressive qualification campaign, scoring 12 goals while conceding only three. On their road to Morocco, Zambia eliminated Rwanda, DR Congo and Ethiopia.

The team arrived back in Zambia aboard Ethiopian Airlines at exactly 01h16.

Also on hand to receive the team at Kenneth Kaunda International Airport were FAZ Deputy General Secretary Iva Lengwe and Head of Media and Communication Nkweto Tembwe.

The delegation to Ethiopia was headed BY FAZ Lusaka province women’s representative, Samantha Miyanda, while Referees Manager Stanley Hachiwa and Head of Administration, Francis Limande represented the Secretariat.
