Esther Siamfuko and Esther Muchinga Overjoyed After Making Zambia’s Olympic Team
Two Zambian female footballers, Esther Siamfuko and Esther Muchinga, have expressed their delight and honor after being selected for the final squad ahead of the 2024 Paris Olympics.
Esther Siamfuko took to social media to share her excitement, pledging to work hard and dedicate herself to the team’s success. “I am deeply honored and thrilled to have been selected as part of the team for the Paris Olympics. My pledge is hard work, dedication, and always showing up. Thank you all for your usual support and encouragement. It’s a great honor to represent my country,” she posted.
Esther Muchinga, who secured a spot on the team ahead of other talented players, is determined to make the most of this opportunity. Aware of the high expectations placed on her, she is committed to putting in the effort required to make her country proud.
The selection process was highly competitive, with only 22 players chosen from the 35-player provisional squad. Coach Bruce Mwape made some surprising changes, dropping notable players like Margaret Belemu and Ireen Lungu. Belemu, a standout performer in her right-back duties, was dropped after joining the provisional squad just days after completing military training. Lungu, a sensational player for Green Buffalo and the national team, was excluded due to fitness concerns.
Despite the surprises, the selected players are eager and ready to represent Zambia at the 2024 Paris Olympics and make the football fans proud.
