Enala Phiri Simbeya Named New Green Eagles Women Head Coach

GREEN EAGLES WOMEN FOOTBALL CLUB has unveiled a new technical bench and seven new players as the club prepares for the 2026 Transitional Season of the Zambia Premier League (ZPL) Women’s Super Division Southern Zone.

Speaking during the unveiling, Green Eagles Women Football Club Chairman, Brigadier General Isaac Haminwe, said the club’s ambition must go beyond participation, with the team expected to compete for championships and major cup honours.

Brigadier General Haminwe said the club should aspire to compete in CAF, COSAFA and other continental competitions, while harnessing its talent to produce players capable of contributing to the national team.

He also stressed the importance of discipline and professionalism both on and off the pitch, saying the support provided by the Zambia National Service should translate into improved performance, player development and results.

The Chairman further highlighted the club’s role in developing women’s football and providing opportunities for girls to pursue their footballing potential.

The club has appointed Enala Phiri Simbeye, a CAF A Licence coach, as its new Head Coach.

Simbeye said she was ready to take on the responsibility and build on the work of her predecessor while introducing a new philosophy to the team.

“My promise is that I’ll be ready to undertake every task, no excuses. My personal goal is to build a team for COSAFA. With the right support, we will do great things,” she said.

Club Secretary Goliath Mungomba said the club is targeting a top-two finish in the Southern Zone, which has 11 teams competing in the transitional league.

Mungomba said the teamwork among the players and technical bench, coupled with the experience of the new coach, gives the club confidence in achieving its objective.

The squad has been strengthened with goalkeeper Gift Chimba from Konkola Blades FC, Ghanaian attacker Miriam Mohammed, who played for ZISD last season, and striker Bupe Soko from Ingwe Girls FC.

Defenders Naomi Mumba from Green Buffaloes Women FC and Phylis Kangwa from Shining Stars Liso Girls FC have also joined the squad, alongside midfielders Rosemary Nyirongo from Yasa Queens FC and Given Phiri from Konkola Blades FC, who join on loan.

The new additions are expected to bring fresh energy, depth and competition to the squad as Green Eagles Women Football Club begins its 2026 Transitional Season campaign.

The club has welcomed the new coach and all seven players to the “Happy Family of Green Eagles Women Football Club” and expressed confidence in their contribution towards achieving its objectives.
