Mathkat United Make ZPL National Division Debut as Season Opener Ends 2-2 Against Lumwana Radiants

Mathkat United FC made their first-ever appearance in the ZPL Men’s National Division with a 2-2 draw against Lumwana Radiants FC in the 2026 season opener.

The historic debut saw Mathkat United show character in their first league outing, coming from behind to secure a point in an entertaining four-goal encounter.

Lumwana Radiants took the lead through Chabala Kasanda in the 55th minute before George Salamwansa doubled their advantage with a 68th-minute goal.

Mathkat United refused to give up, with Shadrick Chinyumba Kambwili finding the back of the net in the 30th minute before completing his brace in the 81st minute to ensure the points were shared.

The result gives Mathkat United a positive start to their first-ever campaign in the ZPL Men’s National Division, with the team now turning its attention to their next challenge against Indeni FC.

Reflecting on the opening fixture, the club described the match as an important learning experience as they prepare for their next assignment.

“Match day one was a practical lesson we we shall develop on. This week we work hard and prepare for Indeni FC with much more focus and determination. Thank you Luapula for the support and see you on Saturda,” the club said.

Mathkat United will now look to build on their historic debut when they face Indeni FC on Saturday.
