Cosafa Cup: Numba to Lead, Sichone Facing Possible Sideline
Numba Mumanga, the coach of Kabwe Warriors, is reportedly being considered to lead Zambia at the 2024 Cosafa Cup.
Meanwhile, Moses Sichone, the assistant coach of Zambia, might be sidelined as the Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) aims to give more exposure to local coaches in international football.
Chisi Mbewe was initially seen as a top candidate for the position, especially after his success in securing a league and cup double.
However, Mbewe will not be available for the tournament in South Africa due to his club’s participation in the Cecafa Cup in East Africa, which will take place from June 26 to July 11.
Despite Mbewe’s unavailability, there is a strong belief that he deserves a chance to lead the national team. However, FAZ decided not to disrupt Red Arrows’ continental preparations.
As a result, it is understood that Numba will be given the opportunity to coach a squad primarily composed of local players.
Zambia, the defending champions, will be aiming for their third consecutive Cosafa Cup title.
The tournament, featuring Zambia, Zimbabwe, and Comoros in Group B, will be held from June 27 to July 7 at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium.
