Zambian striker Racheal Kundananji has garnered attention by emerging as the fastest player at the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup. With a remarkable speed of 33.2 km/h, Kundananji outpaced all other participants in the tournament, earning her the distinction of being the quickest player on the field.
Her rapid pace places her at the top of the list, ahead of other notable players such as Kalyssa Van Zanten from Jamaica, Lynn Williams of the United States, Florencia Bonsegundo of Argentina, and Thembi Kgatlana from South Africa’s Banyana Banyana. All these players achieved a speed of 33.0 km/h during the tournament.
Despite her individual achievement, Kundananji’s team, the Zambia Women’s National Team, faced a challenging journey in the tournament, exiting during the group stage following consecutive 5-0 defeats against Japan and Spain. Nevertheless, Kundananji managed to make her mark by scoring her first World Cup goal in Zambia’s 3-1 victory over Costa Rica.
Her accomplishments are not limited to the international stage. Kundananji had a standout season with her club, Madrid CFF, in Spain’s Liga F. During the previous season, she secured an impressive second place in the league’s top scorer ranking, netting a total of 25 goals. This remarkable feat positioned her just behind Alba Redondo, a Spanish international player who scored 26 goals.
Kundananji’s contributions were instrumental in propelling Madrid CFF to their highest league finish ever, securing fifth place in the standings with 56 points after 30 games. Her prowess extends beyond club football, as she also achieved success while representing Zambia by scoring six goals across various competitions during the previous season.
