Patson Daka Set to Start as Leicester City Returns to EPL Against Tottenham Hotspur
With the English Premier League set to kick off in eleven days, Patson Daka and his Leicester City teammates will be making their return to the top flight of English football.
After being relegated in the 2022/2023 season, the Foxes swiftly secured promotion by winning the Championship.
Their first fixture back in the Premier League will be an exciting one, as they host James Maddison and Tottenham Hotspur at the King Power Stadium for the season’s first Monday Night Football on August 19.
This match against Ange Postecoglou’s Spurs marks a challenging start for Leicester’s return to the Premier League.
The opening months will be testing, as City will also face Youri Tielemans and Champions League participants Aston Villa and travel to Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal.
They will make two more trips to London, facing Fulham and Crystal Palace on the road.
Leicester is preparing for their fifth preseason game on Saturday, but Jamie Vardy, who has played less than an hour of football this summer, remains sidelined with an injury.
This increases the likelihood of Patson Daka starting in the opening game, with Daka seemingly favored over Tom Cannon. Cannon’s limited minutes against Palermo and Augsburg suggest he may not be the preferred choice.
Daka had a stronger performance against Augsburg, showing improved movement in the box despite the lack of creative support.
Nevertheless, filling Vardy’s shoes has been a formidable task for any striker over the past decade, and Daka faces the additional pressure of representing a squad that has not significantly invested in new talent this summer. With Leicester set to start the season with a striker who hasn’t scored a club goal in six months, Daka’s performance will be crucial. A goal in the upcoming match against Lens would be beneficial.
Daka has scored 22 goals and provided 13 assists in 96 appearances for Leicester City across all competitions.
Predicted Leicester City line-up (4-2-3-1): Hermansen; Ricardo, Faes, Coady, Justin; Ndidi, Winks; Fatawu, De Cordova-Reid, Mavididi; Daka.
