Tapera’s Disavowal of COSAFA Squads Leads to ZIFA Confusion and Chaos

The turmoil at ZIFA reached a new low on Sunday when Warriors interim coach Jairos Tapera disavowed the squads announced by the association for the COSAFA Cup tournament.

The regional competition is set to take place in South Africa from Wednesday until July 7.

The latest squad was released yesterday afternoon while Tapera’s Manica Diamonds were facing Dynamos at Sakubva. The match ended in a goalless draw.

“I don’t know who released the two teams. I haven’t announced anything yet; you will all know when I pick my own players,” said Tapera.

“The foreign-based players from England have all confirmed their interest in participating in this tournament.”

He also urged fans to be more lenient with the Warriors.

“I don’t know what is happening. As far as I know, anyone who is picked to play for the national team should be supported.

“The criticism of the boys has been too harsh, and I’m pleading with fans to be kinder.”
