Introduction of Blue Card Proposed in Football

In a bid to enhance player conduct in professional football, the International Football Association Board (IFAB) is suggesting the introduction of a new card alongside the traditional yellow and red cards: the blue card.

The blue card would serve as a temporary removal from the field for a duration of 10 minutes, offering a cooling-off period to help alleviate tensions. This measure aims to mitigate on-field altercations and promote better player behavior.

Upon returning from the temporary suspension, if a player receives another blue card, they will be immediately shown a red card and permanently dismissed from the game. Additionally, if a player accumulates both a blue and a yellow card, they will also receive a red card.

IFAB is expected to present this proposal on Friday, emphasizing its significance in addressing the rising incidents of confrontations during matches. The introduction of the blue card signifies a proactive step by football’s governing body towards fostering a more respectful and sportsmanlike environment on the field.
