Rachael Kundananji Faces Disappointment as Madrid CFF Falls to Real Madrid in Late Collapse
Rachael Kundananji, the Copper Queens attacker, experienced a nightmare start to 2024 as her Madrid CFF side suffered a heart-wrenching 2-1 defeat to Real Madrid in the Spanish La Liga F on Sunday.
Despite enjoying a stellar 2023 with numerous individual awards and a prolific goal-scoring record, Kundananji‘s team faced a dramatic turn of events. Madrid CFF seemed poised for a positive return with Cristina Librán’s 90th-minute strike.
However, in a stunning late collapse, Real Madrid snatched victory with two goals in additional time – one in the 95th minute and another in the dying seconds of the game (99th minute). This defeat marked Madrid CFF‘s first of the year and their fourth of the season.
While Kundananji has been a prolific scorer in the league with eight goals, she now faces the challenge of regrouping and bouncing back after this setback. She currently sits third in the top scorer chart, trailing Caroline Hansen of Barcelona (10 goals) and Sheila Gomezi of Atletico Madrid (11 goals). Determined to regain momentum, Kundananji and Madrid CFF will aim to overcome this disappointment and refocus on their La Liga F campaign.
