FIFA referee Diana Chikotesha, a prominent figure in women’s football officiating, has been chosen to officiate at the upcoming TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations Côte d’Ivoire 2023, set to commence on January 13, 2024.
Chikotesha, based in Lusaka, is one of two female referees selected for the tournament, alongside Carine Atezambong from Cameroon.
The duo will be part of a team of 28 assistant referees and 26 referees overseeing the matches.
Notably, Chikotesha’s journey includes recent participation in the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand, as well as officiating at the CAF Women’s Champions League in Côte d’Ivoire.
Zambia, making a return to the AFCON, will kick off their Group F campaign against DR Congo on January 17, followed by a match against Tanzania four days later.
Their group stage will conclude with a fixture against the Atlas Lions of Morocco on January 24.
