Barbara Banda Shortlisted for 2023 CAF Women’s Player of the Year Award
Copper Queens captain and all-time top scorer, Barbara Banda, expressed her joy at making it to the top three shortlist for the 2023 CAF Awards Player of the Year (Women). She will be competing for the prestigious accolade with South African forward Thembi Kgatlana and five-time African Footballer of the Year Asisat Oshoala.
Barbara Banda has had an outstanding year, scoring 15 goals and providing three assists in 15 games. Her remarkable performance makes her a strong contender for the award, especially considering that Asisat Oshoala has been less active this year, and Thembi Kgatlana has not had as significant an impact for her team.
The winner in each category will be determined by votes from a panel consisting of the CAF Technical Committee, media professionals from Member Associations, Head Coaches & Captains of Member Associations, and clubs involved in the group stages of the Interclub competitions.
The Awards Gala is scheduled to take place on Monday, December 11, 2023, at the Palais des Congrès, Movenpick, Marrakech, Morocco, at 19:00 local time (18:00 GMT).
