Copper Queens Keeper Hazel Nalu Triumphs in ACL Rehab Eyes Return to Action

Copper Queens’ star goalkeeper, Hazel Nalu, missed the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup due to an Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) reconstruction of her left knee
Nevertheless, she has successfully completed a two-and-a-half-month physiotherapy and rehabilitation program at St. George’s Hospital in Christchurch, New Zealand.

Under the care of surgeon Andrew Vincent and physiotherapist Emma Beattie, Nalu has made commendable progress, restoring the basic range of movement and strength in her knee. The medical experts are satisfied with her development.

The next phase of Nalu’s rehabilitation focuses on the crucial aspects of strengthening and conditioning her knee, expected to take three to four months. She is set to undergo two additional stages of ACL rehabilitation, including plyometrics and agility work.

Expressing gratitude, Nalu acknowledged the support from the government, which covered her medical bills, and the Football Association of Zambia. This financial assistance underscores the commitment to the well-being of athletes.

Zambia’s High Commissioner to Australia and New Zealand, Elias Munshya, conveyed the government’s eagerness to witness Nalu’s return to action post-recovery.
This positive sentiment was shared in a statement by Charles Mucholo, the First Secretary of Press and Public Relations at the Zambia High Commission in Australia.
The collective support signals optimism for Nalu’s complete recovery and resumption of her role as the Copper Queens’ first-choice goalkeeper
