Zesco Ndola Girls’ prolific striker, Charity Mubanga, is basking in the joy of receiving her first call-up to the Zambia women’s national football team. Mubanga, along with ZISD forward Namasiku Lungowe, earned their spots as replacements for the injured duo of Sarah Jere and Eneless Phiri.

Expressing her excitement, Mubanga stated, “I feel really happy, and it’s my first time being called up. I’m honored to be part of the squad.” The young striker acknowledged the significance of the opportunity and is eager to contribute to the Copper Queens’ success.

Recognizing the expectations of home fans, Mubanga emphasized the importance of securing victory against Angola to qualify for the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON). Reflecting on the Copper Queens’ third-place finish in the 2022 WAFCON, she underscored the significance of progressing to the next round.

“It is very much important to get to the next round because it will mean a lot to Zambia and to us as well to participate in the tournament once again,” Mubanga expressed.

As the Copper Queens gear up for the return leg against Angola at the Levy Mwanawasa Stadium on December 5th, Mubanga urged fans to turn out in numbers and support the team’s quest for success.
