ZESCO Ndola Girls Drawn In Group A With Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies In CAF Women’s CL qualifier

Reigning Zambian Premier League champions ZESCO Ndola Girls have been placed in Group A of the 2025 CAF Women’s Champions League COSAFA Qualifiers, where they will face stiff competition from Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies (South Africa), Ntopwa FC (Malawi), and Beauties FC (Namibia).

Making their debut in the tournament, the Zambian side is eager to prove their worth, banking on the skill of stars like Penelope Mulubwa and the depth of their experienced squad.

This year’s qualifiers feature a record 10 teams from the Southern Region, divided into three groups. Group B consists of Gaborone United Ladies (Botswana), Young Buffaloes (Eswatini), and Kick4Life WFC (Lesotho), while Group C includes Herentals Queens FC (Zimbabwe), Clube de Desportos da Costa do Sol (Mozambique), and Olympic De Moroni (Comoros).

ZESCO Ndola Girls Head Coach William Zulu acknowledged the challenge ahead but remained confident in his team’s ability to compete. “Football is played on the pitch, and I believe in my girls. We’ll go there, work hard, and achieve our objectives,” he said. When asked about facing powerhouse Mamelodi Sundowns, Zulu added, “It’s a plus to play them. We’ll focus on our own game without being intimidated by their reputation.”

The coach stressed that his team will not underestimate any opponent, treating each match with equal seriousness. He also called on Zambian fans to rally behind ZESCO Ndola Girls, just as they passionately support the Copper Queens, as the club carries the nation’s hopes in the tournament.

The COSAFA Qualifiers will be held at AW Muller Stadium, University of Johannesburg, from August 22nd to 31st, with the top teams advancing to the next stage of the CAF Women’s Champions League.
