Zambia’s Chipolopolo Set to Face Off Against Russia in Friendly Match

The Chipolopolo Boys are set to engage in an international friendly match against Russia, marking a significant milestone in the enduring friendship between the two nations, now reaching 60 years. This initiative aims to further solidify bilateral relations through the spirit of sportsmanship.

The announcement emerged following a courtesy visit by Russian Ambassador to Zambia, Azim Yarakhmedov, to FAZ General Secretary Reuben Kamanga. Discussion centered around potential match dates, with September and October being considered, strategically coinciding with Zambia’s Independence Day on October 24.

Efforts are underway to synchronize the schedule with FIFA’s international window to ensure both teams can field competitive lineups. Tentative dates under consideration include September 2-10 or October 7-15.

In a statement issued by FAZ, Ambassador Yarakhmedov expressed enthusiasm for the forthcoming match, highlighting its role in commemorating six decades of friendship. He also hinted at broader collaboration, including cultural exchanges such as a joint musical concert featuring artists from both countries, with proceeds benefiting charitable causes.

FAZ President Andrew Kamanga echoed the sentiment, affirming FAZ’s commitment to facilitating the friendly match. He pledged prompt communication with the Russian Football Union to finalize suitable dates within the FIFA window, emphasizing the significance of the occasion in celebrating the enduring bond between Zambia and Russia.
