Zambian Boxers Miss Out on Paris 2024 Olympics Qualification
Zambian Boxers Stephen Zimba and Mwengo Mwale Miss Out on Paris 2024 Olympics Qualification
Zambian boxers Stephen Zimba and Mwengo Mwale faced disappointment in their quest for Paris 2024 Olympic Games qualification. Competing in the qualifiers held in Bangkok, Thailand, both athletes fought valiantly but were ultimately eliminated on unanimous points in their respective bouts.
In the featherweight category, Stephen Zimba succumbed to a defeat against Brazil’s Wanderson de Oliveira, while Mwengo Mwale faced a similar fate in the middle lightweight category, losing to Abduraimov of Ukraine. Their elimination occurred in the round of 32 of the men’s competition.
While Zimba and Mwale’s Olympic dreams have been dashed, Zambia has already secured qualification in three sports disciplines for the Paris 2024 Olympics. Boxer Patrick Chinyemba, athlete Muzala Samukonga, and the Copper Queens football team have all earned their spots in this prestigious international event.
The setback in boxing is a challenge for Zambia’s boxing federation, but it serves as motivation to redouble efforts and secure more qualification spots in future competitions. Meanwhile, attention will now shift to the qualified athletes as they intensify their preparations to represent Zambia with pride at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
