The Copper Queens have secured their place in the CAF 2024 Women’s African Cup of Nations in Morocco by defeating Angola 12-0 on aggregate across two legs.
Zambia is returning to the WAFCON tournament after an impressive performance in the 2022 edition, where they reached the semi-finals.
The opening goal came in the fourth minute as Spain-based forward Racheal Kundananji capitalized on a defensive mix-up. Captain Barbra Banda then added to the lead ten minutes later, courtesy of a Racheal Nachula assist. Susan Banda, a midfielder from Red Arrows, scored a stunning goal just a minute into the second half.
The fans erupted when substitute Aveil Chitundu scored the fourth goal. Esther Banda, the overlapping full-back, contributed to the tally by making it 5-0. Kundananji wrapped up the scoring with her second goal of the night, bringing her total to 26 goals in 37 appearances.
Zambia had previously defeated Angola by the same margin in the first leg.
This marks Zambia’s fourth appearance in the WAFCON tournament, having participated in 2014, 2018, 2022, and now in 2024.
