Y-Celeb’s Pitch Invasion Lands FAZ $10,000 Fine from CAF

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has fined the Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) $10,000 following a pitch invasion led by Zambian artist Y-Celeb and fans during the October 9, 2024, Group G Africa Cup of Nations qualifier between Zambia’s Chipolopolo and Sierra Leone’s Leone Stars.

FAZ General Secretary Reuben Kamanga confirmed the penalty, citing CAF’s Disciplinary Board decision. The fine addresses breaches of security standards and the inability to maintain adequate measures during the match held at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium.

“The CAF Disciplinary Board has decided to impose a $20,000 fine, of which $10,000 is suspended for 12 months on the condition that no similar infractions occur within this period. Any repeat of such incidents will automatically trigger the suspended fine in addition to further sanctions,” Kamanga explained.

The incident, fueled by Y-Celeb’s involvement, highlights the need for tighter security at future matches to avoid similar penalties and ensure the safety of players, officials, and fans.

FAZ has vowed to implement stricter measures to prevent a recurrence and protect the integrity of Zambian football.
