WSL Matchup: Zesco Welcomes Buffaloes in Clash of Top Contenders
Following a two-week hiatus, the FAZ Women’s Super Division resumes this afternoon with an enticing lineup of matches.
In Lusaka, Luyando Foundation Girls are set to clash with National Assembly in a derby as they strive to climb out of the relegation zone. Currently positioned 15th on the table with 25 points, a victory at home could propel them as high as 13th.
National Assembly, aiming to steer clear of the danger zone, will be keen to avoid defeat. They sit just three points away from the relegation threshold.
Meanwhile, in Ndola, Indeni Roses will endeavor to narrow the gap between them and league leaders Green Buffaloes Women’s Football Club. Hosting relegated Kabwe Celtic Queens, Indeni appears to have a favorable fixture on their hands, having previously triumphed 5-0 in the reverse encounter.
In Kabwe, Queens Academy, The Royal Girls, take on Kamfisa Blue Eagles in a crucial battle to avoid relegation. A victory for Queens Academy would lift them out of the relegation zone while pushing Kamfisa Police Blue Eagles perilously closer to it.
Red Arrows, buoyed by the return of several star players from military training, are set to visit Chipata Girls. Although the title is beyond their reach, Red Arrows will seek to return to winning form to bolster their position in the standings.
The participation of key players such as Milika Limwanya, Margaret Belemu, Mary Wilombe, Mary Mulenga, Mary Mambwe, Ochumba Oseke Lubanji, Alines Kasoma, Elizabeth Nachivula, and Hellen Mubanga remains uncertain, with speculation on whether they will be immediately reintegrated into the squad.
However, the highlight of the weekend awaits on Sunday at Trade Fair Ground, as ZESCO Ndola Girls host defending champions Green Buffaloes Women’s Football Club. A win for Buffaloes could see them open up a three-point lead at the top of the table.
Having gone unbeaten in their last 19 games, ZESCO Ndola Girls will aim to avenge their sole defeat of the season, which came at the hands of Buffaloes in Lusaka. Buffaloes, on the other hand, remain undefeated this season, boasting 20 wins and 4 draws.
Coach Carol Kanyemba’s side will be bolstered by the return of midfielder Evarine Susan Katongo, who missed the Copper Queens’ recent Olympic qualifiers against Morocco due to injury.
Elsewhere, at Independence Stadium, ZISD will host ZANACO Ladies, while YASA Queens will clash with Green Eagles in what promises to be an intriguing encounter.
