William Mtonga Rejoins Nkana FC with One-and-a-Half-Year Contract
Nkana FC have welcomed goalkeeper Kelvin Mtonga back to Kalampa as the shot-stopper begins a new chapter with the club where his senior career first took off. The 26-year-old returns after gaining valuable experience with FC MUZA, Lumwana Radiants and Nchanga Rangers, adding greater depth and competition to the goalkeeping department.
Mtonga is a familiar face to the Aba Red supporters. A product of Rops Academy, he joined Young Nkana in 2016 before earning promotion to the senior squad a year later. His return represents a homecoming for a player who understands the club’s traditions and expectations.
Over the past few seasons, Mtonga has continued to develop his game across the Zambian top flight, building a reputation as a reliable and experienced goalkeeper. His return is expected to strengthen Nkana’s squad as the club prepares for the challenges ahead.
After finalising his move, Mtonga expressed his delight at rejoining the club, saying the chance to wear the famous red jersey once again is a special moment in his career and one he is eager to repay with strong performances on the pitch.
“I am excited to be back at Nkana Football Club. A lot has changed since I was last here, but one thing has never changed, Nkana has always been in my heart. The years I have spent away have helped me mature both on and off the pitch,” Mtonga said.
“When I came through Young Nkana and into the senior team, I was still learning and competing against experienced goalkeepers. Looking back now, I can say those experiences helped shape me into the goalkeeper I am today.”
Mtonga said he understood the culture of Nkana FC and knew the expectations, pressure and responsibility that came with wearing the Kalampa badge.
“I grew up watching Nkana. I grew up supporting this club. Even while I was away, Nkana was always close to my heart. Coming back feels special because this club has always been part of me,” he said.
“To the supporters, I am coming home as one of your own. I am your son and I ask for your support as we begin this journey together once again.”
Nkana FC Chief Executive Officer Mwansa Kapyanga welcomed Mtonga back to the club, describing his return as one that combines familiarity with valuable experience.
“William understands what it means to represent Nkana Football Club. He came through our development system, knows the expectations that come with this badge and returns having gained important experience at different clubs,” Kapyanga said.
“We believe he has grown tremendously both as a goalkeeper and as a professional. His return strengthens competition within our goalkeeping department and we are confident his experience, maturity and commitment will benefit the team throughout the season.”
