Wedson Nyirenda Cautious of Resilient Konkola Blades

ZANACO head coach Wedson Nyirenda is anticipating a challenging match this afternoon as his team visits the Konkola Stadium in Chililabombwe.

Nyirenda acknowledges the quality of Konkola Blades, highlighting their effective style of play under the guidance of coach Beston Chambeshi. Despite creating several scoring opportunities in their last game, Nyirenda feels the team fell short in breaking through the opposition’s defensive lines, a deficiency they have worked on rectifying.

“We have touched all the departments and I think we were lacking in the breaking of the lines in the last game despite creating some good chances to score. I think we have done the corrections this time,” Nyirenda commented.

Regarding their upcoming opponents, Nyirenda recognizes Konkola’s resilience and skillful approach to the game, emphasizing the importance of readiness from his team.

“We are playing Konkola, it’s a stubborn team, they play good football, and coach Chambeshi, we know what to expect but I think the team looks ready,” he remarked.

Reflecting on their recent 1-1 draw against Nkwazi, Nyirenda highlighted the team’s failure to handle second balls, particularly during set-pieces, as a contributing factor to dropping points.

“We were loose in marking, especially in set pieces. We ended up conceding from ball watching on the second ball and Konkola is equally good with the same tactics,” Nyirenda explained.

Despite the challenges, Nyirenda remains optimistic, emphasizing the team’s growth and development phase. He stresses the importance of identifying the right players and formations to achieve a strong finish this season, setting the stage for a successful campaign next season.

“The mood I think is okay, the players recognize that we are a big team, but we have to understand this is a team in the making. We are still in the process of checking who is who and in which formation and tactic. I think these are things that are expected in a team that is being built. Come end of season we want to finish in a decent position so that we start off on a high next season because we would have had all the players in place playing in the same style,” Nyirenda concluded.
