Red Arrows FC Makes History by Reaching CECAFA Club Cup Final
Red Arrows Football Club has become the first Zambian team to reach the CECAFA Club Cup final, defeating Sudanese side Hay Al Wadi Football Club 2-0 in extra time. This remarkable achievement sets up a final showdown with APR FC of Rwanda on Sunday, July 21, 2024, at the KMC Stadium in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.
The semi-final match was a hard-fought battle, with both teams creating scoring opportunities. However, it was the Red Arrows who displayed great determination in extra time, taking control of the proceedings and avoiding penalties. Paul Katema broke the deadlock in the 112th minute, followed by Alassane Diarra’s second goal in the 115th minute, securing the win for the Zambian champions.
Red Arrows’ Head Coach, Chisi Mbewe, expressed his delight with the result, emphasizing the team’s pre-season objectives and their commitment to attaining full fitness ahead of the Super League and CAF Champions League.
Alassane Diarra was voted Man of the Match, receiving 300,000 Shillings for his outstanding performance.
With this historic victory, Red Arrows, who have already won the 2023–2024 MTN Super League and the 2024 ABSA Cup, have reached a major milestone. The team is now on the cusp of achieving a treble, with the CECAFA Club Cup final looming.
The winners of the final match will receive a prize of 30,000 US dollars, while the runners-up will take home 20,000 US dollars.
