President Hakainde Hichilema of Zambia has celebrated the remarkable debut FIFA World Cup appearance of the Copper Queens, the Zambian women’s national football team. In a message of inspiration and encouragement, President Hichilema highlighted the spirit of resilience, determination, and perseverance exhibited by the team, urging fellow Zambians to embrace these qualities.

Speaking at a welcome dinner organized in honor of the Copper Queens at the Mulungushi International Conference Centre, President Hichilema acknowledged the historic journey undertaken by the team. He stressed the importance of the Copper Queens’ participation in paving the way for future generations of female athletes, showing that dreams can be pursued without limitations.

President Hichilema emphasized the government’s commitment to developing and promoting sports within the country. He called for a focus on positivity and urged the media to provide uplifting coverage and reviews of the team’s efforts, thereby contributing to their motivation and support.

He reaffirmed the government’s dedication to fulfilling the obligations of the Copper Queens, including daily allowances, winning bonuses, and other pledges. President Hichilema praised the team’s embodiment of resilience, determination, and perseverance, highlighting that they had broken barriers and stereotypes, demonstrating that women are a powerful force in the world of sports.

FAZ President Andrew Kamanga echoed the sentiment of celebrating the team’s achievement and emphasized the need for investment in the women’s league, the primary source of players for the national team. He expressed gratitude to the government for introducing equal pay for both men’s and women’s teams, a move that motivates the Copper Queens.
