Nigeria Women Lead Olympic Qualifier vs. South Africa

Nigeria Clinches Hard-Fought 1-0 Win Against South Africa in Olympic Qualifier

Rasheedat Ajibade’s penalty secures victory for Super Falcons in first-leg showdown at Abuja

In a thrilling match, Nigeria’s women’s team, the Super Falcons, secured a crucial 1-0 victory against South Africa in the first-leg of the final qualification round for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. Rasheedat Ajibade emerged as the hero for Nigeria, converting a penalty to seal the win.

The Super Falcons dominated early on, with Ihezuo and Okeke threatening the Banyana Banyana defense. Nigeria’s persistence paid off just before halftime when Ihezuo was fouled in the penalty area, leading to Ajibade’s decisive spot-kick.

Despite a spirited second-half performance from South Africa, including a couple of testing chances for goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie, Nigeria held on to their lead. The result leaves South Africa facing an uphill battle in the return leg in Pretoria on April 9.
