Mutapa Revealed as the New Head Coach for Power Dynamos
Power Dynamos, the reigning champions of the Zambia Super League, have officially introduced Osward Mutapa as their new Head Coach. Mutapa steps into the role previously held by Mwenya Chipepo, who departed the club in November last year to join Forest Rangers.
The unveiling ceremony took place on a vibrant Tuesday morning at the Power Dynamos secretariat in Kitwe. Mutapa, the former head of the Zambia U-23 National Team, has committed to a two-and-a-half-year contract with the Yellow side of Kitwe.
Linos Makwaza, a revered figure in Power’s history and interim head coach during the transition, will resume his position as the first assistant coach.
Mutapa’s previous coaching stint was with Lusaka-based team Nkwazi, where he departed through mutual agreement after a year at Edwin Imboela Stadium. Joining Nkwazi in January 2023 amidst a serious relegation battle, Mutapa played a crucial role in securing the team’s survival on the final day of the season. A 1-0 victory over Green Eagles, courtesy of a first-half free kick by Stephen Mutama, ensured Nkwazi’s continued presence in the league.
As of now, Nkwazi holds the 7th position on the league table with 30 points, just three points adrift of Power Dynamos in the third position. Mutapa’s new challenge at Arthur Davies Stadium will involve contending for the league title defense or, at the very least, securing qualification for the CAF Confederation Cup.
