Morocco Wins Appeal Against CAF Ban on Head Coach Walid Regragui

Breaking News: Morocco Wins Appeal Against CAF Ban on Head Coach Walid Regragui

In a significant turn of events, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) has overturned the sanctions previously imposed on Morocco’s national coach Walid Regragui. The Disciplinary Committee had issued penalties, including a financial fine, following a brawl during the match between Morocco and the Democratic Republic of Congo.

The initial sanctions were as follows:

  • Suspension: Regragui was suspended for four matches, with two of these matches being effective immediately and the other two suspended for a year.
  • Fine: A financial fine was imposed on both the Congolese and Moroccan football federations.

However, after considering the arguments presented by the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF), CAF decided to reverse the sanctions against Coach Regragui. This means that the suspension and financial penalties have been overturned.

The brawl had led to Regragui missing the match between the Moroccan national team and Zambia in the final round of the group stage. With the appeal successful, Regragui will likely resume his coaching duties for the upcoming matches.

Morocco’s national team is scheduled to face the South African national team next Tuesday at 10:00 PM in San Pedro. The successful appeal marks a significant development in the ongoing events surrounding the AFCON tournament.
