‘Morocco Game Will Be a Cup Final for Zambia’ – Says FAZ President Andrew Kamanga

Zambia is set for a decisive clash against Morocco in their final Group F encounter at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations. FAZ (Football Association of Zambia) President Andrew Kamanga described the upcoming match as a “cup final” in his weekly presidential corner column.

Zambia currently sits third in Group F with two points, and the scenario makes the final group match against Morocco crucial for their progression in the tournament. Kamanga expressed optimism, pointing out the positive aspects of Zambia’s performance in the earlier matches.

After securing a respectable 1-1 draw against Tanzania, even with ten men following Rodrick Kabwe’s red card, Zambia is in a better position than after their opening draw against DR Congo. Kamanga believes in the team’s improvement and their ability to deliver a strong performance against Morocco.

However, the dynamics changed following Monday’s results in groups A and B. With Morocco already guaranteed qualification to the last 16, Zambia now needs to avoid defeat on Wednesday to secure their place in the knockout stage. Kamanga acknowledges that the chipolopolo boys can now play for a draw, ensuring their return to the continental showpiece after missing out on the last three editions.

The match against Morocco is scheduled for Wednesday at 22:00 CAT at the Laurent Pokou Stadium in San Pedro.
