Moroccan Women Move Closer to Olympic Games with Victory in Zambia
The Moroccan women’s national team moved one step closer to the Paris 2024 Olympic Games after a thrilling 2-1 victory over hosts Zambia in the first leg in Ndola.
Rosella Ayane scored the winning goal in the 95th minute, securing a crucial away win for the Atlas Lionesses.
The team, guided by coach Jorge Vilda, showed great resilience and skill against a strong Zambian side led by Bruce Mwape.
Despite early pressure and a penalty scare, Moroccan goalkeeper Khadija Rmichi made a brilliant save in the 33rd minute to deny Prisca Chilufya.
Morocco took the lead just before halftime with a stunning goal from Zineb Redouani, leaving Zambian goalkeeper Eunice Sakala helpless.
Zambia fought back and equalized through Lushomo Mweemba in the 80th minute, setting the stage for a tense finish.
However, Ayane’s late heroics secured the win for Morocco, putting them in a commanding position ahead of the return leg at home next Tuesday.
The team will be looking to replicate their performance and secure their spot in the Olympic Games.
